Planning Assistant / Officer
Full Time – 37 hours per week

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is Britain’s only true coastal national park, a place where rugged cliffs give way to sandy beaches and wooded valleys lead up to wild inland hills - understandably, planning plays a key part in our responsibility for this special place.

Purpose of the Role:

To contribute to a high quality Development Management and Development Plans service which meet the service and corporate objectives of the National Park Authority.

Main Responsibilities:

The Planning Assistant / Officer will work within our Development Management team, providing technical support and working towards managing a full case load of planning applications. The post holder will work on a variety of minor development proposals, pre-application enquiries, appeals and enforcement.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Educated to minimum HND or equivalent in planning or a planning-related subject or have experience of working within a planning department in public or private practice. RTPI membership is an advantage.
• Good IT skills, with expertise in the use of databases, spreadsheets and Geographical Information Systems together with social research skills and the ability to use and analyse data.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, organise and prioritise work effectively and work to deadlines.
• The ability to work through the medium of Welsh would be an advantage. There will be an expectation on any candidate to agree to learn Welsh to a level where they are able to work at level B2 within an agreed period. The Authority will provide support to enable the successful candidate to reach this standard.
• A full driving licence.

Salary and Benefits:

Basic salary between £19,945 to £26,317 (depending on qualifications and experience), minimum 23 days holiday, rising to 28 days, plus public holidays, local government pension scheme, flexible working arrangements, career development opportunities.

The position will be based at our HQ in Pembroke Dock; the office is an 8 minute walk from the nearest train station, we have secure cycle parking facilities and ample car parking. We also operate a pool car scheme for site visits.
