Seasonal Assistant Wardens - Pembrokeshire
£9 per hour, full Time, temporary
1st May – 30th September 2019 (for positions in West and South areas)
1st June - 30th September 2019 (for positions in North Area)

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park boasts a wealth of wonderful places to explore and enjoy. Its stunning coastline offers safe, sandy beaches ideal for families, hundreds of miles of footpaths, as well as rugged cliffs and secluded rocky coves.

As part of our summer 2019 program, we are now recruiting Seasonal Assistant Wardens to work outdoors in the National Park during the summer months as part of a small team, helping to maintain the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the wider path network, as well as a variety of National Park Authority owned and managed sites.

Duties and Responsibilities;

• The work mostly involves vegetation cutting using a variety of machinery including pedestrian flails, brush cutters and hedge trimmers.
• Maintenance of rights of way furniture on the Coast Path and inland path network, including gates, steps, signs and path surfaces as required.
• Basic upkeep and servicing of tools and machinery used during the course of your daily work.

Ideal candidates will;

• Be practical with at least 6 months’ work experience of using and maintaining cutting machinery such as brush cutters, hedge trimmers, mowers and pedestrian flails.
• Have the ability to undertake basic servicing and repair of tools and equipment (useful but not essential).
• Have experience in practical countryside and conservation management tasks including installation of signage and access furniture such as gates, stiles, fences, hedge-banking etc.
• Hold certificates for the use of brush cutters, mowers and other relevant machinery (useful but not essential) as is a NVQ level 2 or equivalent in conservation or countryside management.
• Hold a full driving licence. The ability to tow trailers is desirable but not essential. Welsh language skills desirable but not essential.


Several positions are available to cover the following areas;

• 3 Posts in the West Area – reporting to Withybush, Haverfordwest, covering Fishguard around through St Davids, Dale and on to Neyland.

• 2 Posts in the North Area – reporting to Cilrhedyn, covering the Preseli Hills and the coast from Fishguard to St Dogmaels.

• 1 Post in the South Area – reporting to Milton, covering the Daugleddau, Angle, Tenby through to Amroth.

All equipment, uniform, footwear and protective equipment is provided.
